We would like to rush ahead, go faster, get it over with but life lessons are not just about learning facts, they have to do with shaping character and that is not a quick process. If we hurry through the lesson, not allowing the situation to fully conform us to the character of Christ, we will have to repeat it later.
Notice that Psalm 1, a Psalm that is teaching us how to be be blessed and prosper no matter what we do (verse 3) starts with verse 1 slowing us down – walking to standing to sitting. Then in verse two, we are not only sitting but we are meditating. I can be sitting but my mind still racing. Meditation causes our mind to slow down and focus also.
Finally in verse three, after we have slowed our body and our mind down, we become even more stationary as we are “planted”. It is being planted that begins to produce fruit and blessing. A tree that is continually transplanted will never put down adequate roots to produce fruit.
Slow down – school zone ahead. It is only by slowing down that we will be rocketed into the fullness of what God has for us.
